Described as a blueprint for the 21st century which sets out the plan for a world class centre of education, this project presented us with many technical challenges throughout the build. Our Drylining managers worked closely with the British gypsum technical and are proud to be the first contractor in England to use their new Gypwall Extreme system (incorporating Rigidur H Board) which provides durability of traditional build with faster installation times and vastly reduced water content.
A very unusual feature of the school is the Chapel adjacent to the main hall, which is of a fluted design; we achieved this with an independant wall lining system and multiple layers of Multiboard.
As specialist music school acoustics were paramount, we were able to achieve partitions up to 60 Rw dB for the music practice rooms together with ceiling systems to control reverberation times.
Although this package grew by a third to over £900,000, we were able to complete on time to the client's satisfaction.
We have subsequently been awarded a contract in excess of £2,000,000 for the Larkhill Retirement Village in Clifton, Nottingham for GallifordTry Construction.
